Question: Diabetes?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

(Posted by: Moe J on 2010-02-08 12:00:31)

I a 15 year old guy, and my dad has diabetes. the other day i checked my blood on his machine. it was 175 an hour later the reading was 150, and an hour after that it was 110. today, i came home from school and the reading was 128. my dad said the reading should be 120 or less. do i have diabetes? im really scared. also, although it might be paranoi(spelling?), i think i have been getting thirsty and peeing alot, which i know are symptoms. but im really worried about the reading. Someone please give me some info or advice. btw, im not overwieght or anything, although i eat alot of junk, and i havent been physically active since the summer.

You might be prediabetic. Hard to say for sure. Sometimes, depending on the junk food you ate, like pizza for example, you can have higher blood sugars for days. The ONLY way to know for sure is to see your doctor and get your blood tested. If it's elevated any, ask for a glucose tolerance test. The answer is definitive - either you are normal, prediabetic, or diabetic. Note: teenagers and children are allowed higher blood sugar levels than adults, and still be considered normal. Your dad's statement is somewhat correct, but isn't accurate for teenagers or children.

Before you did your sugar test did you wash your hands? If you have food residue etc on your hands/ fingers you will get an incorrect reading. x
