OK, let me induct you into the "real world " of BG testing. Every nurse will tell you to wipe with alcohol and change out your lancet every time you test. Every diabetic will tell you that neither of those things are necessary. Checking your BG is no more dangerous than getting a paper cut. Washing your hands is all you need to do. It's even safe to check if you have lotion on your hands, but the oils in the lotion (same with Bactine) can throw off your numbers, so it's best to have washed your hands at least recently. You can use the same lancet a hundred times or more, just change it out when you feel the pricks getting uncomfortable. BG testing shouldn't be painful. It's not fun either, but if your fingers are sore, your lancet device is probably penetrating too deeply. There should be a little dial at the top that you can adjust up and down. Try going down one or two settings and see if that helps. You don't need a big drop of blood, maybe the size of a peppercorn. |
